CONNECTING WITH SOMEONE
Small acts of kindness can help us in forming connections during a time where many of us feel isolated or disconnected. In this issue, we explore a few ways to give back and reconnect with our community. Connecting with someone is never difficult with our wellness workshops that provide the best tools for building interpersonal skills for every relationship.
START WITH KINDNESS
How small acts of kindness can make us feel more connected
Scientific research provides compelling data that giving is a powerful pathway to personal connection, growth and lasting happiness. Over the last five months, people across the world are reconnecting in unique ways - whether it's balcony concerts or Zoom happy hours - every one seems to be expressing a deep desire for forming connections and strengthening old ones. One way people are reconnecting is by showing their appreciation for others through acts of kindness. These acts of kindness have been as small as notes of encouragement on social media and grew into giveaways like complimentary services, discounts, and more. This movement spread like wildfire as individuals and organizations began to create new ways to "pay it forward," in their neighborhoods and communities. These acts of kindness can help spark joy and help you connect with someone during a time of isolation. Here are a few ways you can give back and connect with the world around you.
Show Others Your Appreciation
Maintain a strong connection with someone by letting them know you appreciate them. Connect with family or friends by writing a letter, email, or sending a thoughtful text. You can also show your gratitude by sending someone a gift card or your favorite printed photo of you together.
Become a Virtual Volunteer
There are over 1,000,000 virtual volunteer positions that exist where you can form connections. You can find an organization or cause that you are passionate about and search virtual positions online at VolunteerMatch.
Keep Celebrating the People Around You
In-person celebrations may be temporarily on hold, but graduations, birthdays, and life events are still happening. There are many apps to connect with friends and some safe in-person ways still exist. Find creative ways to celebrate with the people around you: drop off baked goods, organize a drive-by parade, or host a surprise Zoom party!
Connect with Neighbors in Need
If you have a neighbor that is elderly or immunocompromised you can offer to pick up grocery items or offer to prepare a meal for them. Live a Dream collects video montages to brighten a senior's day. You can tell a joke, play an instrument, or just give some encouraging words that can deepen a personal connection.
